Muang On Cave is located in the San kamphaeng District, just about 30 km East of Chiangmai close to the fervid Springs. The road leading to Muang On Cave winds it's high the side of a hill to a small parking. There are several seller selling food and souvenirs here and there is lots of shaded seating available. If you don't have a water bottle, it is a good idea to get a cold water here as it can be a fervent clamber.
The Muang on Caves are filled with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. There is a tortuous concrete runway along the cavern floor allowing you to wander along till you finally reach the end of the caverns. All the way along the path you will visit dozens more of the little place of worship that have been erected over the decades. No need to duck your head moving around in this cave system as it if full of towering caverns and fluorescent lights artfully placed around to enhance the look and feel of natural rock formations.
The most breathtaking is the steeple tall sparkling stalagmite, which also can be seen through a gap as big as a plane window along the stairway on the upper level. A corner of the cave where water spouts drops from the host of stalactites is also a wonder, especially so in the wet season when continuous gushes offer a vision of an underground waterfall. In one cavern is a large Buddha image.
After that visit Sankampang hot springs where the hot springs boil continuously and emit a strong smell of sulfur. You can also enjoy watching the thermal geysers rising inside the beautifully landscaped flower gardens within the park area.
Sankampang Hot Spring located in Sankampaeng district which is outside Chiang Mai city about 40 km or far from Muang On cave about 20 minutes for driving. This place is the destination for the tourists who interested in health and well-being. Natural spring emitting water with high sulfur content, the spring is said to cure ailments and rejuvenate the body. The water has a temperature in excess of 100 degrees centigrade.
The park has been well landscaped and in the cool season the flowers are very lovely. Huts with mineral baths have been constructed; there is a restaurant, a camping area and good places for picnics.
A Private tour to Muang On Cave is an excellent idea for a day travel particularly if compound with a visit to the hot Springs. On the drive, you can stop and shop at the numerous handicraft centres and manufactory that line the roads all along the road.

Tour to Muang On Cave

A powerful torch or even a headlamp is one of the best ways to find into the gloomy corners and small passageways.
Muang On cave's walls are sleek and rounded in the form of the swirling pools of water that formed them. Here and there a small stalactite drop from the roof and an infrequent petrified river of shining diamond like taint on the wall. The sheer pathway continues to the sap floor that is lambent by mysterious pools of smooth light from florescent tubes that prepare lights all along the way. just about halfway down to the vault floor is a peculiar group of 2 foothing sculpture resting on a huge natural shelf. Four of these are old men and one takes the weird form of a cow's head on a human body.
The meandering concrete pathway all along the hole floor allows you to stroll along till you finally reach the end of the cave. As you trek inside, you'll visit several little shrines or grottoes all along the furrow that have been erected over the decades. Another thing to watch out for is the unbelievable stalactite and stalagmite formations. As you get to the central hole ground, you will come across a huge, 30-foot long reclining Lord buddha statues in the midst of the stalactites. Above the sculpture is what, according to legend, is a fossilised dinosaur skeleton!
Leading up from this place is a erect staircase of 187 steps. At the top lies a big circular 'sala' with brilliant views of the surrounding countryside. Just above this is the entry to the cavity.
The right way to go to Muang On Cave
Move out of Chiangmai across Nawarrat Bridge and go along Charernmuang Road. Go directly ahead when you reach the superhighway and continue on past the silverware, lacquerware, textiles and carving factories through Sankampang - Bor sang parasol otop village and take a right at the sign for Muang On Cave in Mae On district.
